A Panel discussion Friday, October 25th from 1:15-3:15pm in ESC. We will discuss potential uses, costs, and limitations of the MinION, the world’s only portable DNA and RNA sequencer. This small device opens new possibilities for amplicon sequencing in field settings and may facilitate genome assemblies of non-model organisms thanks to the long reads it provides. For those of us working with organisms whose tissue cannot be easily exported, this new technology can open exciting new possibilities, as it allows to generate genomic data in situ, given that is powered by USB, it can work anywhere one can take a laptop.
